Artificial Intelligence Usage & Outlook

Our latest ABA Executive Benchmark explored AI implementation, use and outlook for arts and cultural organizations, including questions on department use, perceived risks and opportunities.

Highlights from the survey include:

  • Most organizations rate their understanding of AI and how it can support their work as limited, however there is a projected increase in the importance of AI in the next 3 years.

  • Currently, Marketing departments are the teams that most use AI to enhance and facilitate their work.

  • Freeing staff time to focus on other activities is perceived as AI’s greatest business opportunity and motivation for using AI across responding organizations.

  • Investments in AI remain low. A third of respondents allocate no budget to AI tools, while another half allocate only 1-5% of budgets towards AI tools.

  • Few responding organizations have a dedicated person or team responsible for AI implementation.

  • Most respondents do not have a governance framework for AI and most do not have a 3-year strategy to invest and expand their AI efforts.

  • Respondents are most concerned about Intellectual property and copyright risks related to AI.
