Internal Communications

Our latest ABA Executive Benchmark explored internal communications practices at arts and cultural organizations.

Highlights from the survey include:

  • At most institutions, executive teams are responsible for communicating a majority of large-scale organizational updates, with HR representatives taking more ownership around internal policy updates.

  • The most common cadences for all-staff meetings are monthly or quarterly. Updates from these meetings are typically shared via in-person department debriefs or email summaries.

  • Most organizations surveyed have smaller task force groups, who communicate their updates directly with the rest of the staff.

  • For organizations who work with unions, over half have a designated union representative with whom they primarily communicate in both formal and informal manners.
