Institutional Fundraising

Our latest ABA Executive Benchmark explored the state of art and cultural organizations’ institutional fundraising, including government and foundation support.

Highlights from the survey include:

  • For most organizations, government support represents 20% or less of overall contributed income, and is predicted to remain steady or decrease by most arts and cultural leaders.

  • Federal and state governments are the most common funders of arts and cultural institutions; for city contributions, grants are the most widely used funding apparatus.

  • Similarly to government support, foundation support accounts for under 20% of contributed income at a majority of organizations and is mostly predicted to remain the same or decrease next year.
